Wow, talk about a movie that holds its own. It had crappy special effects for 2013, but i totally enjoyed myslef all the same.

Runaway Jury (2003)

Dry. It's ok, but dry. Predictable and without any real wow moments it plods along.
Won't bother to watch it again but it didn't kill me to watch it either.

Another Sunday afternoon favorite. Get comfy on the sofa under a blanket and watch or doze off. It's funny and sappy in all the right ways.

Lee Daniels' The Butler (I) (2013)
what a fantastic movie. Touching. Inspired by the real events of one mans life and the epic events in race relations in America in the 1950's and 60's.
A must see. Oscar worthy.

sweet movie. Life in its ugliest and truest forms. Awkward. Dysfunctional. And very real. A good watch. Make you laugh. Make you weep. Go get it for the weekend.

Watched i again, first time since 2004, and wow what a great film. Bigger than life and probably my favourite DiCaprio film. Mind you i am not a big fan of his. This role allows his to showcase his ability to swing from sanity to insanity in a single breath. Blanchett is simply amazing. The way both of them captured such recognisable people was epic.
Great movie from start to finish, wonderful look, wonderful editing, just a fantastic movie all around.
If you have never seen it, go...do it now.
Then come back here when your done and post a comment or thought.

A Bronx Tale (1993)
IMDB LINK
Stars --- Robert De Niro, Chazz Palminteri, Lillo Brancato
This was a surprise movie, i sat down to watch what i thought was a gangster movie, what i got was so much more. Oh sure there were tough guys, and clashes over power, but there was so much more. There was also a strong storyline of the lessons learned and shared by a mentor and a father. Two forces that pulled and pushed at this developing mind. It is an authentic glimpse into a world that is often characterised as one dimensional. No one is just a thug or just a good guy. We all have shades of grey in the choices that we make. And we all have to live with them.
Great move, well worth your time.

42 (2013)
IMDB LINK
Stars --- Chadwick Boseman, T.R. Knight, Harrison Ford
I didn't recognise Harrison Ford for the first 20 minutes. This movie was all that i expected it to be, and then more.
I expected it to be a Hollywood look at racism and a nod to how African Americans have struggled to gain equality in every facet of life. What i was not expected was to be made uncomfortable at the bigotry that Jackie Robinson had to face, and face with style.
I didn't expect to want to look away or cover my ears at the things that were done and said about a man, wanting to play a game he was good at.
What an amazing century I was born in that such rage and hostility could of existed, and now an African American sits in the oval office. Such change, even in my lifetime.
Be prepared to be moved.

We're the Millers (2013)
IMDB LINK
Stars --- Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts
No awards will be bestowed, no one will even remember this movie in 25 years, hell in 5 years, but its raunchy and fun and i laughed a great deal. Memorable in its content there a bits my household is still giggling about and quoting to each other. That is the mark of an enjoyable film. This is a fun film.
If you want something cerebral or inspiring this is NOT it, but if you want fun...go for it.
Also watch the credits, they totally take a great jab at Jennifer Aniston. Well played guys well played.

What a great old movie. The bromance of all bromances. This quick little film zips along through comedy and tragedy at a wicked pace. Jack Lemmon the ultra annoying friend of the biggest slob Walter Matthau. I love these two guys together. I really do. It touches on sex, divorce, friendship, suicide, survival, and change. Just a great little bit of film.

Mud (2012)
IMDB LINK
Stars --- Matthew McConaughey, Tye Sheridan, Jacob Lofland
McConaughey is a good actor, but these kids out act his ass a thousand times over in this modern day spin on Huck Finn.
You have poverty, the river, adventure and danger in this tightly written script with a few surprises amid a lot of predicable but tolerable plot developments.
A good Sunday afternoon on the sofa movie.

Stars --- Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Beyoncé Knowles
Cartoon movies generally disappoint me. Although i am a kid at heart i find them far too predicable and therefore too drenched in cliche to enjoy.
This is no exception.
And yet i enjoyed myself despite all of that.
Dont run out and go see it, but if it was all that was on TV you would enjoy it.

Here sits Tom Cruise along with all the fans of this movie.....that is to say no one.
Proof that Morgan Freeman will make any movie for a buck.
This was a self indulgent predictable piece of trash that piggybacks off so many better made end of days and or aliens invade earth. I wanted the world to end as i sat through this horrific display of his mediocre acting skills. Don't. Just don't.
In short, don't bother.
Not even a good movie to nap too.
Comments, thoughts?

The To Do List (2013)

Maybe its because it was an epic journey to get to this movie, or maybe its because my daughter was headed off to school the next day, but i laughed my ass off.
Funny flick to watch with your teens, sexual, totally PG and a great laugh.
Nothing deep or morally redeeming, just a good raunchy laugh.
Go for it.

Dont recomend starting this art film if your a bit tired. I say this because i started it tired, and quickly dozed off. It was curious i the first half, but i was not sucked into it.....now i dont know how it ended, but it would have to be a pretty amazing second half to overcome the sleep inducing first half.
Yawn.......

Assault on Wall Street (2013) "Bailout: The Age of Greed" (original title)
IMDB LINK
Stars: Dominic Purcell, Erin Karpluk, Edward Furlong
No big names, just an amazing spiral of darkness and honesty.
This is the underbelly of the last ten years. We all took a loss in the last ten years, and it was good to see someone take the fight to Wall Street.
Not for actual actions, but for the fantasy we all have of taking out the stock broker that doomed our pension plans. Yeah baby.
A good little film.

Reminded me of a 1950's Hepburn and Tracey movie.
It was OK, but a total knock off of a better movie i am certain, just cant remember the name of the movie.
A comedy of errors as boy one and girl one realise they are no longer in love....enter girl 2 and boy 2
Awkwardness and comedy ensues.

Stars: Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald
What a great little cast.....and such a fun movie from the 1980's.
This movie looks at how we group ourselves into unique packs but when forced to look at our differences, shock surprise there is not really a difference.
As they go through the bonding moment we are emotionally drawn to believe that we could all be better off if we just accepted each other for what we are, and not what we aren't. celebrate the similarities and not the differences.
But as all of us over 24 know, this is not a reality.

One of my favourites. Funny moments, and my favourite.......AFTER-funny moments.
AFTER-funny moments are the kind of moments that your quote later with friends and make you both laugh.

Sexy. Dramatic.
A good Sunday afternoon flick. Mind you if you missed it don't feel bad. It is not so unique. But I was pleasantly surprised by a few plot developments. I was also not let down by far too many plot cliches.
Sean Penn has a great role here.

Totally worth a watch every 3 or 4 years if you watch it with others that love to sing along with a musical. This was a hoot the other night.
John is funny and adorable. Olivia is sexy and charming. My favourite is Stockard. She is the best character in the entire movie for me. Love her songs and her style.
In the end the good girl must turn bad and the bad girl must straighten out in order to get balance in their lives. The best characters have balance at the end of the movie.

So after we watched this we decided that Morgan Freeman must of been in financial trouble and that Gerald Butler must be a hard core Republican.
Lots of techno effects
But honestly, YUCK.
The only thing good about this film is it reminds you what a good film is, NOT this piece of American righteous crap.
We get it, the world isn't safe with a weak kneed democrat in the white house.
Subtle Butler, subtle.
