North Sea Texas (2011)

IMDB LINK

Quirky little avaunt garde film.

Easily one of the oddest coming out coming of age movies i have ever seen.

Sort of Brokeback Mountain meets Euro Rom-Com

If you like an odd movie that is unlike the norm, you'll dig this.

The week after we watched it we were still gabbing about it.

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

DON'T GO
DON'T WATCH

OK seriously, no IMDB LINK cuz its not worthy.

Seriously, the books had female protagonists, but this atrocity is just misogynistic shite.

Girls fighting over him, all awaiting his arrival for salvation, and then their powers out thunk by his crappy parlour tricks.

DON'T BOTHER

Check out that leg.....1941 Holy Cow.

This flick will entertain, inform on the slang of the 40's and make you tap your foot.

If you don't hum the song she performs after you watch it, your dead from the butt up.

Totally recommend it, so dash off and watch it with some friends.

OMG,

OK, total disclosure, I watched this last night......

It was so good.

Scary to consider the ugly things we can do to each others as humans.

Be prepared for the ugly and dark side.

Great but honestly it is messed up.

THE UNTOUCHABLES (1987)

IMDB LINK

Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert De Niro all in one movie.

Epic.  Larger than life.

De Niro is larger than the role, he jumps off the screen.

Connery is so masterful while being supportive in this movie, and clearly his ego allowed for it.

Not sure if it is factual or not, but i promise when you get to the end, you will not care.

Drama, Laughs, and Action.

A total must see with a group of friends.

Schedule it and make it happen.

More Bogart.....but not slick.

He is gritty and common.

I gotta say this is not my favourite Bogart film, but its a total must see for a film lover.

He slided into insanity and this explores the power of greed.

The lure of wealth and the happiness we will give up to get it.

I watched this shortly after the crash of the US economy and all i could think was that nothing has changed.

People will do anything to get their own, and this movie dives deep into it.

TAXI DRIVER (1976)

IMDB LINK

14 year old Jodie Foster as a prostitute across the cafe table from De Niro.....Wow

Its a dark and f-ed up movie for sure.

Not saying i got it all, but it was fun to watch.  Like a messed up journey.

Glad it was on the top 400 nominations list and that i could cross it off.

A must see.......go experience it.

SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (1952)

IMDB LINK

A 1950's look back at the end of the silent film.

I love this one, its a feel good movie.

Pay close attention to the shots and how infrequently they cut.

Dance scenes done in one long take, that requires TALENT.

It was great.

Recognizable a great movie.

So emotionally draining that i can only watch it every 10 years or so.

All the same, freakin amazing.

A must see.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (1977)

IMDB LINK

This is like a documentations glimpse into the weird world of Disco halls in the 1970's.

Its also the first time that a song is set to the scene, check out the opening scene.

I enjoy this blast from the past.

Don't look at it like its a classic, but its a good flick.

If i flipped by it on TV, i would totally stop and watch the rest of it.

Comments?

RISKY BUSINESS (1983)

IMDB LINK

A young Tom Hanks......so there is that.

I'm going to let my age show, and say i still love this movie, but i accept that is is a mediocre movie.

It did not resonate with the people i watched it with who gave it a meh.

So if your not the right age you may not dig this.

So this one remains a guilty pleasure i will watch alone once every few years.

Have surround sound, and crank it

A great movie, fun, family flick.

Totally a cozy Sunday afternoon movie.

Nothing deep to say about the plot, its OK.

Don't expect a lot of THEATRE, is just a great little ACTION flick.

PULP FICTION (1994)

IMDB LINK

Always part of the Top 100 or Top 250 lists that you find on the net.

Its not going to be me that tells you otherwise.

A great flick, unless the movies you watch have to be in sequential order.

This movie jumps around, and it totally makes the movie what it is.

I totally recommend this one.  Fun to watch with people that have never watched it before.

Lots of those kind of OMG moments.

PSYCHO (1960)

IMDB LINK

Janet Leigh never showered again.  and her daughter is the Queen of Scream -- Jamie Lee Curtis

My 16 year old put her iphone down and watched this one, that is a high compliment indeed as she normally facebook's all the way through a movie.

I have seen it many times, and each time it scares me.

Watch it every 4 or 5 years, not cuz its bad, but cuz you need to forget all the details so you can enjoy it as a new viewer again.

A must see, and the birth of modern horror.

THE PRODUCERS (1967)

IMDB LINK

A quirky little movie.

Didnt want to like it, but it gave me a chuckle or two.

I firmly beleive that Mel Brooks was funny, once, but has no more humour attached to him.

I wouldnt run out and watch it again, enough said.

Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe rock this movie.

Remind yourself that Oliver Stone is always going to overplay and magnify the darkest points of war.

As long as you remember he has a strong left leaning political agenda, than run out and watch it.

Disturbing story and a dark look at humanity.

War blurs the lines between what is right and what is "okay"

Where do i begin, Tom Hanks is my generations ACTOR.  He not only performs he becomes that role.

This is no exception.

Amazing and moving film, that reflects a bigotry that was so rampant in that era.

The performance rises up and above the time/period it is trapped in.

Like all great actors, his role comes off the screen and moves you to feel for the man, regardless of the era it is set in.

A must see.

Can watch it anytime.

This movie killed me.  For as freaked out as audiences may have been in 1976, that nut job on the news is just average today.  We call it FOX or CNN.

Another one of those one i crossed off the list and will likely never watch again.

All the same, good  movie.

Check it out.

NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE (1978)

IMDB LINK

Life Fast Times at Ridgemont High this is hard to believe it made the top 400 nominations list by AFI.

If you want to drink while you watch a movie, here is your pick.

Drink Every Time . . .

1. Glass breaks
2. Anyone drinks
3. Otter flirts
4. Anyone says "Faber"
5. Anyone says "fraternity," "frat" or "house"
6. A car crashes

Otherwise its a total waste of time.

Watched it, got is off the list.

Will likely never watch it again.  Having said that i bet if i flipped by it on the TV i might stay for 10 or 15 minutes.

That's the best i could say.

8 Oscars lady, Hollywood celebrated the musical in a big way as the sexual revolution and racial tension of the sixties loomed.

I adored it.

I must admit i didn't think i would.  Not a big fan of musicals, but this one tickled me in an innocent place in my mind.

would probably only watch it once every few years, but  it was worth the time.

Just a few short years after such conservative films as Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Bonnie and Clyde Hollywood gives us this.

Sexy, overtly.

Funny, and sarcastic.

Verging on unpatriotic.

Quite a statement about the Vietnam war, despite the location being Korea.

If you have not seen it, put it on your must see list.

1967 was a hell of a year; Guess Whos Coming to Dinner, Bonnie and Clyde, The Graduate and In The Heat of the Night

Shamlessly,   never even got nominated.  The irony is too thick to even mention.

This is a must see.  I could watch this one ever year or so and happily be shocked at the racial issues that are so brilliantly dipicted here.

Oh my god, great story, great glimpse into the time/period, and something even more amazing......ACTING.

Great film, a must see.

A time and cast that knew how to act.  This movie could never be made today without injecting stupid slapstick laughs.  This movie does not blink, it deals with the uncomfortableness that builds and builds.

Great watch.

A good flick and well worth the watch.

Fantastic.A must see.

didn't think i would dig this silent film.

Great stunts.

SPOILER ALERT
When the Texas goes over the burning bridge and plummets into the river, the looks of shock on the faces of the Union officers were real, because the actors who played them were not told what was going to happen to that train.
Buster was amazing.  Make the time.

GANDHI (1982)

He inspires and its informative and i adore the scenery.

FATAL ATTRACTION (1987)

F-ed up in 1987 and still is today.  OMG this movie will keep you jumping.

Good flick, and well worth the watch.  Had multiple generations in the room and we were all into it.

Maybe you feel differently, but i thin it was a good flick.  Well made.  Glenn Close will make you want to never meet a stranger again.

FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (1982)

OK, hard to imagine it his the top 400 list.  See it once, in a silly mood.  Don't go out of your way to see it.

Very 1980's and translates poorly.

Has totally radical moments, but geez, its just a dump high school movie.

FARGO (1996)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116282/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Makes me laugh every time.  Hard to believe its based on a true story.  Yikes.

This is a once a year watch.  Cracks me up.  Then i wander around for a month saying "oh Yeah"

Probably the first time i fell in love with Steve Buscemi.

From a feminist perspective its a great flick, female protagonist, pregnant, and hero who unravels the mystery.

A must see, oh yeah.

DUCK SOUP (1933)

Rufus T. Firefly although the dictator of a flailing nation and with a sense of humour has totally stood the test of time.  Don't watch it looking for a deep meaning, its a poke at any political stripe.
Be silly, put your adult mind on pause and giggle at this silly movie.
